Fishers claims big victory against conference opponent
FISHERS- The Fishers Freight hosted the Iowa Barnstormers for the first time this season. After going up early in the first quarter, the Freight claimed a dominant victory over the Barnstormers, 63-33.
FIRST QUARTER
Iowa received the ball first and were able to move down the field and score a touchdown, however the Freight blocked the extra point kick. The score remained 6-0 in favor of the Barnstormers after the first drive.
On the Freight’s first drive of the game, Josiah King ran the ball into the end zone for their first touchdown. After a good extra point kick, Fishers took a 7-6 lead.
Sutherland hit a deuce on the next kickoff to add two more points to Fishers’ lead.
The first quarter ended with the Freight up 9-6 and still driving.
SECOND QUARTER
Dominic Roberto scored a touchdown for Fishers before Sutherland made another successful extra point kick. This gave the Freight a 16-13 lead.
Sutherland kicked another successful deuce on the next play to give Fishers a 18-13 lead.
The Freight stopped Iowa from scoring, before quarterback Felix Harper scrambled and took the ball to the end zone himself for the Freight’s third touchdown of the game. After another good kick from Sutherland, Fishers took a 25-13 lead.
The Freight attempted an onside kick on the next kickoff and it appeared they recovered it successfully. After the one minute warning timeout, Freight head coach Dixie Wooten challenged the offsides call. It was upheld.
Iowa had another field goal attempt that was blocked by Fishers, resulting in Donnie Lewis Jr. picking up the ball and running it almost for a touchdown. On the next play, Harper threw the ball up to Jordan Davis who scored his first touchdown of the season with an incredible catch in the end zone.
Iowa added another touchdown, rushed in by quarterback Harry Roubidoux before the first half ended. The extra point kick was unsuccessful so the second quarter ended with Fishers up 32-19.
THIRD QUARTER
Josiah King ran in another touchdown early in the third quarter to give the Freight a 39-19 lead after another good extra point kick from Fishers.
On the Barnstormer’s next possession, Donnie Lewis Jr. intercepted the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good but Fishers took the 45-19 lead anyway.
Roubidoux rushed for another touchdown for Iowa. After a good kick for the extra point, Fishers led 45-26.
The Freight’s Roberto scored his second touchdown of the game right before the third quarter ended. After another good kick from Sutherland, Fishers headed into the fourth quarter with a 52-26 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Freight opened the fourth quarter with a safety, adding two points to their lead.
This made it 54-26 before Jordan Davis, who had previously scored a touchdown as a wide receiver in this game, came in for Felix Harper at quarterback.
Davis rushed in another touchdown on his first drive as a quarterback. After a good kick, the Freight led by 35.
On the next kickoff, Sutherland scored his third deuce of the game to make it 63-26.
Iowa brought in a new quarterback, Ivan Corbin, who quickly scored the team’s fifth touchdown of the game. A good kick made it 63-33 in favor of the Freight.
The Freight knelt on their next possession one final time to close out the game, earning their third win in three games at home.
