FREIGHT FALL 68-50 TO JACKSONVILLE SHARKS IN FIRST MEETING
Sutherland shines despite Freight’s loss to Jacksonville
FISHERS- The Fishers Freight hosted the Jacksonville Sharks for the first time this season on Saturday night. After a high intensity, shootout-style game, the Freight fell 68-50 to Jacksonville.
FIRST QUARTER
On their first possession of the game, the Freight went up 7-0 after CJ Windham caught a touchdown pass from Felix Harper in the back of the end zone.
Calum Sutherland successfully kicked the extra point and followed that up with a deuce on the next kickoff. After scoring a safety too, the Freight took a 11-0 lead.
Jacksonville answered back with a touchdown next by Jalen May to make it 11-7 late in the first quarter.
On the Freight’s next possession, the Sharks’ Isaiah Major intercepted the ball. Jacksonville quickly turned that into a touchdown before the first quarter ended. After a good kick, the Sharks took a 14-11 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
On their first possession of the second quarter, Dominic Roberto rushed in a touchdown to give Fishers a 18-14 lead. Sutherland netted his second deuce of the game to extend their lead to 20-14.
Sammy Edwards ran the ball in himself for a touchdown on Jacksonville’s next possession. Marc Orozco added a point with a successful extra point kick. This made it 21-20 in favor of the Sharks.
Fishers’ Sutherland attempted a field goal to end their next possession however he did not score.
After the one minute warning, the Freight used all of their timeouts before Jacksonville made it 27-20 by scoring a touchdown but missing the extra point. It was Edwards who ran the ball in again.
With under twenty seconds to go in the first half, the Freight tied the game at 27-27 after Windham caught his second touchdown pass of the game and Sutherland tacked on another good extra point.
Sutherland added his third deuce of the first half on the next kickoff to give the Freight a 29-27 lead before heading into the locker room at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Marquel Wade scored the half’s first touchdown for Jacksonville. Orozco’s extra point kick attempt was good and the Sharks took a 34-29 lead.
Fishers’ Felix Harper rushed in the game’s next touchdown to give the Freight a 35-34 lead. The extra point kick attempt from Sutherland was blocked.
Jacksonville took the lead again when Jaedon Stoshak scored a touchdown to make it 41-35 but Fishers answered back quickly with a rushing touchdown from Roberto and a successful extra point kick from Sutherland.
It was 42-41 in favor of the Freight before time expired on the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Jacksonville scored first in the fourth quarter with a touchdown run into the end zone by Edwards. After a good kick, they took a 48-42 lead before Orozco scored his first deuce of the game to give the Sharks two more points.
After scoring a safety themselves, the Sharks took a 52-42 lead.
They added to it with another touchdown with under six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. It was Wade who scored his second of the game before a good kick from Orozco.
With under two minutes to go, Roberto rushed in another touchdown before the Freight went for two extra points and were successful. Windham made the catch in the end zone to bring the score to 59-50. The Sharks still led.
Fishers attempted an onside kick in an effort to recover the ball, however Jacksonville took possession.
Jimmie Robinson Jr. rushed in the game’s next touchdown. After a good extra point kick and deuce from Orozco on the kickoff, the Freight could not score again. The game ended with a score of 68-50 in favor of the Sharks.
The Freight go into their second bye week of the season before visiting Jacksonville on May 30.
