FREIGHT FALL TO SHARKS WITH BLOCKED KICK IN FINAL SECONDS
In a defensive, low-scoring battle, the Sharks came out victorious 36-34
JACKSONVILLE- The Fishers Freight visited Jacksonville to take on the Sharks for the second game in a row. After taking a late lead in the fourth quarter, the Freight ultimately fell to Jacksonville, 36-34 in last-second blocked kick play.
FIRST QUARTER
On the first drive of the game, Jacksonville’s Cahoon threw an interception caught by Jacorey Benjamin in his first game.
Fishers drove the ball down the field but Harper threw an interception in the end zone caught by Isaiah Major.
The Sharks scored first on the next drive after Billy Bowens ran the ball in for a touchdown. After a good extra point kick, Jacksonville led 7-0.
The Freight took possession and drove down the field but the quarter ended before they could touch the end zone.
SECOND QUARTER
Early in the second quarter, Fishers scored when Josiah King ran the ball in for a touchdown. Calum Sutherland added the extra point to tie the game, 7-7.
Jacksonville answered back with a touchdown by Redd Douglas. Kicker Marc Orozco added the extra point and a deuce to give the Sharks a 16-7 lead.
Rudy Silvera caught an interception from Felix Harper on the Freight’s next drive, however Fishers was able to make the stop on a field goal attempt by Jacksonville next.
With under thirty seconds to go, Felix Harper threw on fourth down and Isaiah Coulter made the narrow catch in the end zone for a touchdown. The score became 16-14 after a good kick from Sutherland.
Jacksonville scored a big touchdown with just three seconds left in the first half to take a 23-14 lead.
With just three seconds remaining in the first half, the Freight attempted a field goal and Sutherland came up huge with a successful kick. This brought the score to 23-17 going into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
With their first drive of the second half, the Freight went for a field goal that was successful from Sutherland. This made it 23-20, still in favor of the Sharks.
Sammy Edwards finished the job with a rushing touchdown at the end of a long drive for Jacksonville. With a good kick from Orozco, the Sharks went up 30-20.
Fishers scored a touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 30-27 after a good kick.
FOURTH QUARTER
Jacksonville had the first possession of the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs.
Dominic Roberto ran in the ball for a touchdown to give Fishers their first lead of the game, 34-30 after a good kick from Sutherland.
The Freight’s Jaiden Roe immediately intercepted the ball by Cahoon on the first play of that drive. They were held to a field goal attempt, but missed.
Jimmie Robinson Jr. scored for the Sharks to give them their lead back. The extra point kick was no good, however Jacksonville challenged that call. The call on the field was upheld.
Fishers took the ball back with nine seconds to go, down by two. With two seconds to go, they sent out Sutherland for a field goal for the win. At 43 yards, the kick was blocked. This gave Jacksonville the 36-34 victory.
