FREIGHT FALL TO ORLANDO, 67-63 AT HOME TO END SEASON

FISHERS- The Fishers Freight hosted the Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon. In the final game of the regular season, both teams could clinch a playoff berth with a win. Ultimately, it was the Pirates who clinched their spot with a 67-63 win over the Freight in Fishers.

FIRST QUARTER

Orlando started with possession after the Freight won the coin toss. On their first drive, the Pirates’ Nyqwan Murray ran the ball into the end zone. This made it 6-0 after Jaiden Roe blocked the kick on the extra point attempt. 

The Freight answered back with a long touchdown pass to Jordan Davis. After a good kick from Calum Sutherland, Fishers took an early 7-6 lead. 

Orlando went up 13-7 after a long drive. Quarterback Paxton DeLaurent ran it in himself. 

Isaiah Coulter caught a 17-yard pass from Felix Harper for Fishers’ second touchdown of the game. This made it 14-13, which is how the quarter ended.

SECOND QUARTER

Pooka Williams opened the scoring in the second quarter with a touchdown to make it 19-14 after a missed extra point kick by Henry Nell. 

After a holding call on the first down on the Freight’s next drive, they scored another touchdown after Dominic Roberto rushed the ball in. The extra point kick from Sutherland was good. This gave them a 21-19 lead. 

Murray caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from DeLaurent for a quick touchdown for the Pirates, however after a bad snap, the extra point kick attempt was no good. This gave Orlando a 25-21 lead. 

Roberto followed that up with his second touchdown of the game to put Fishers up once again. This gave the Freight a 27-25 lead after a bad snap on the next play. 

The Pirates scored the game’s next touchdown. After successfully scoring a two-point conversion, Orlando took a 33-27 lead. 

They were able to stop the Freight on their next drive, however DeLaurent’s pass was intercepted by Drake Johnson. This gave Fishers the ball back with under thirty seconds to go in the first half. 

With just five seconds left in the first half, the Freight attempted a field goal but were not successful. 

The first half ended with Orlando up 33-27.

THIRD QUARTER

The Freight opened the scoring with another Jordan Davis touchdown from Felix Harper. This gave Fishers a one point lead, with a score of 34-33 after a good kick.

Orlando’s Thomas Owens scored next to make it 40-34 with a touchdown. The Pirates went for two and could not complete it. 

On their next drive, they extended their lead to 46-34 with a touchdown from Teo Redding. The Pirates went for two again, but could not convert. 

The third quarter ended during the Freight’s next drive. 

FOURTH QUARTER

It was Dominic Roberto who was able to close out the drive with a touchdown. After a good kick, the Freight made it 46-41 with the Pirates still leading.

On the next kickoff, Fishers attempted to recover an onside kick but could not. Orlando quickly scored a touchdown and two-point conversion, both caught by Thomas Owens. This gave the Pirates a 54-41 lead with about ten minutes left in regulation. 

Fishers scored to make it 54-48 after Jordan Davis scored his third touchdown of the game. 

They attempted an onside kick again on the next kickoff. This time, the Freight recovered it on the 1-yard line. Felix Harper threw all the way down the field for Isaiah Coulter to make the catch and cross into the end zone. After another successful kick from Sutherland, Fishers took their first lead since the first drive of the second half at 55-54. 

Orlando scored another touchdown that was originally called no good but reviewed and overturned. The Pirates attempted a two-point conversion but did not score. They also went for the onside kick on the next play, but Fishers claimed the ball. 

The Freight quickly scored another touchdown and a successful  two-point conversion by Harper gave the Freight a 63-60 lead. Once again, Sutherland kicked the ball onside but Orlando claimed it. 

With just twenty seconds to go, the Pirates scored a touchdown with a good kick to make it 67-63. 

The Freight got the ball back with one timeout and twenty seconds to go, however they did not have enough time to score. Orlando claimed the 67-63 victory over the Freight to clinch the playoffs and end Fishers’ season.
