FISHERS - The Fishers Freight announced the signing of Quarterback Jiya Wright to a contract for the 2025 season.
Wright is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, playing his high school football at Homestead High School. In two years as the starting Varsity Quarterback, he threw for 3,632 yards and 38 touchdowns while adding 1,717 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground. He lead the Spartans to two winning seasons, including a spot in the Sectional Championship his Senior year.
In college, Wright was a two-star recruit that committed to playing at Northern Illinois University. Through multiple journey's, including navigating the COVID years of college, he landed at his home in Louisiana-Monroe, starting for the team his Senior year in 2023. Wright threw for 1,246 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 264 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
After college, Wright went undrafted in the NFL Draft but found a home with the Sioux Falls Storm on May 23, 2024, signing his first professional football contract. In five games for the Storm, Wright threw for 532 yards and 12 passing touchdowns to go along with 316 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. His best game came against the Iowa Barnstormers where he accounted for seven total touchdowns and 271 yards of offense.
"He's an Indiana kid that knows how to play the position," said Head Coach and General Manager Dixie Wooten. "I'm excited to work with him and make his talent shine even brighter in his first full season as a professional."
